Circular Fashion Summit 2020
World’s First VR Summit for a Better Fashion

3 - 4 October 2020, Paris Fashion Week

Circular Fashion Summit by lablaco is joining forces with the Grand Palais in Paris, well-known for hosting spectacular fashion shows, to reconstruct the iconic building in 3D for virtual reality, created by spacegrey™, and pioneering a new evolution for events and experience in fashion as creativity finds new dimensions in the first ever virtual reality summit in fashion.

Following its first successful edition in September 2019, held in Station F in Paris and attended by companies such as Hermes, Chanel and Balenciaga, CFS2020 is vitalizing fashion and sustainability with a brand new experience through a massive tech-collaborative work, which has never been done in the fashion industry: the event virtual space is made with Unity, produced by spacegrey™ in the AltspaceVR environment from Microsoft, with Oculus headsets to enter the Grand Palais in virtual reality.

“ Following its first edition in September 2019, held in Station F in Paris and attended by companies such as Hermes, Chanel and Balenciaga, this year’s Summit is joining forces with AltSpace VR from Microsoft and Oculus to pioneer the redesign of events for the fashion industry. ”

The iconic Grand Palais enters Virtual Reality for Paris Fashion Week in a historic first

Built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, the Grand Palais has been from the outset a place of permanent innovation and in its recent history, particularly at the cutting edge of digital technology. The production of the Nave in virtual reality fits perfectly with this trajectory.

To perfectly translate the beauty and story of the history of Grand Palais in virtual reality, the 3D laser scans of the building architecture has been produced in partnership with Chatillon Architectes, Chief Architect of France’s historic monuments, in charge of the Grand Palais since 2010.

What’s the Impact?

While events are becoming more virtual than ever, the amount of carbon emissions produced through these events can be considerable, and how to make virtual events be sustainable is the key requirements in today’s world. #CFS2020 partnered with Equilibrium to become carbon neutral offsetting computational power generating for virtual reality.

On the other hand, thanks to virtual reality experimentation and not flying speakers from all over the world to Paris for the summit, CFS has saved more than 10,000 kilogram of carbon emissions.

The social and media impact of a normal digital event can be less engaging, while the first-time-ever virtual reality, the excitement and engagement from all of the attendees in the room are surprisingly high. Nonetheless some small glitches of internet and technical issues, the two-day Circular Fashion Summit 2020 has generated more than 9.8 million of social media impression and 530 million reach by global media, which proved a promising educational tool is coming up.

For sure, there is much room for improvement, more can be done and be experimented in the next following editions.
