INNOVATOR 2021 — Spinnova

About the Innovator

What if we could create a more sustainable textile industry by imitating nature? That question led us to invent a brand new way of making textile fibre, without harmful chemicals. Inspired by how spiders weave their webs, we take cellulose, nature’s most brilliant building material, and align it in an optimal way.

This results in a textile fibre that feels natural and can be as warm as wool. Spinnova fibre can be spun into yarn and woven or knitted into fabrics for apparel, home textiles and even non-apparel products like wet wipes. Thanks to our mechanical process without harmful chemicals, Spinnova's environmental footprint is minimal. We use 99% less water and our carbon footprint is significantly lower compared to cotton.

Moreover, the Spinnova fibre is biodegradable and does not emit any microplastics. We can use various raw materials, for example wood pulp, agricultural residues like wheat straw, and even waste cotton. On top of everything, Spinnova fibre can be recycled again and again, without the fibre losing its strength, enabling truly circular fashion.

We believe that the SPINNOVA® fibre will be the breakthrough that the textile and fashion industry has been waiting for. We have all the needed components in place: a good quality product that can replace cotton in end products, proof of concept from our production pilot, scalable technology and ample, sustainable raw material supply. It is great to join Circular Fashion Summit!
