European Union’s Horizon 2020 funded project — TRICK joins CFS goals as Catalyst
The 3,5-year project — TRICK, funded by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, actualizes the Digitized Circular Fashion Economy with a consortium of more than 29 partners through blockchain data traceability.
Fashion faces transparency issues. Sustainability claims are often misleading or a greenwashing problem - plus: counterfeiting has increased enormously in the era of super-fast fashion. Technologies like blockchain can be powerful solutions to tackle these challenges towards a safer and more transparent future proof industry.
As an inspiration, the TRICK Project started in May 2021, composed of a consortium of 29 partners from EU and EU eligible countries. In the following years, the project will support SMEs in the adoption, tracing and demonstration of sustainable approaches through an innovative and circular product information management system, based on a data collection platform, secured by blockchain and integrated with an open marketplace for the matched services.
TRICK’s platform will provide standardised services targeted at the pilots, that is effective to implement and trace circular economy practices regarding environmental, social and health protection domains.
The main goal is to develop a reliable and secure blockchain-based platform with standardised services for Textile & Clothing and Food with the distinguishing feature of affordability – elucidates Mauro Chezzi, vice-director of Sistema Moda Italia, the Italian federation for Textile and Fashion, institutional partner of the project. "SMEs often have to face economic issues related to the costs of complex and forefront technologies such as blockchain. TRICK aims to solve this gap by supporting the standardisation of its information management system and spreading services for the traceability of the supply chains on a great scale."
Circular Fashion Summit (CFS) curator, Lablaco, is one of TRICK’s 29 consortium members. Lablaco joined the European Union funded Project Horizon, TRICK, as Circular Fashion partner, by providing end to end Web3 circular retail platform - SPIN, to digitize and connect Piacenza Cashmere products, with end to end transparency from the Alpaca Farms in Perú, to Manufacturing, Retail and Post Consumption level, powered by SPIN’s Internet of Things (IoT) system, that allows to connect and trace products at the item level on the blockchain, allowing take-back programs at scale, to active circular business models, such as recycling, re-sell, rental and more.
In regards to the CFS 2022, TRICK is honoured to be part of the summit’s Catalyst Thought Leadership Panel to share the aim and scope of the project, as well the partners work and visions.
Project coordinator, Alessandro Canepa, highlights: "The TRICK project is proud to participate in the CFS, a great occasion to share its approach, point of view and potential themes of collaborations with fashion leaders. We hope to get a direct exchange of vision with fashion to drive TRICK research and innovation to provide those tools which the brands, manufacturers, consumers and all the stakeholders of TC value chain expect, to collect transparent data about green practices. The Lablaco community will provide TRICK with a qualified network to run these activities and a stimulating environment to demonstrate its results.”
Anticipating the participation to this year’s CFS and hoping to gain more valuable insights from retailers and consumers for the development of the TRICK platform, consortium members, Lablaco and UPC, will organise an industry round table in the second quarter of this year. For more information regarding exact dates and invitations, TRICK warmly invites you to sign up to the project’s official newsletter.
TRICK is looking forward to the upcoming events in partnership with Lablaco, creating meaningful transformations in the industry. Also, TRICK would like to invite you to the CFS 2022, to visit the project's official website and social media channels in order to learn more about the project and its partners:
